The brief for this project was to promote ourselves and our work to potential employers and clients. My idea for this project was to create a promotional pack that could be sent out to design agencies, publishers, magazines and other potential clients to showcase my work and hopefully lead to me getting a job in the design/illustration industry.
I think my work is quite playful, fun and bright and I really wanted to show this through my visual language and the design and contents of this promotional pack.
The pack consists of a cardboard box containing a postcard, some prints and a zine. The zine contains my C.V as well as an abridged version of my portfolio, showing aspects of a number of different projects, but not giving too much away. This was done on purpose to generate a sense of curiosity in the viewer. The final page of the zine contains a QR code which leads to a website that would show my full portfolio, an online shop for my personal illustration work, information about me and my contact information. I designed both desktop and mobile mockups of how this site would look.
I also designed packaging for a bag of pick and mix sweets that would be included in the box. I felt like the sweets echo the playful, fun and bright nature of my work. To further emphasize this playful theme I added some hand rendered type throughout, such as “nice things inside” on the outside of the box, and “go on, treat yourself!” on the sweet packaging.
The friendly and playful theme is also shown through the language used in the pack, for example “hello, you look lovely today!” which appears on the postcard and on the website, as well as the use of the :) symbol.
